We most often use the word, "Holy", to describe moral purity and righteousness. However, this is really a secondary meaning. The primary definition of Holy is the meaning, "separate". So, when we talk about the holiness of God, we are referring to His transcendence (He is above and beyond). We are referring to His magnificence and how He is higher and superior to anything created.
