The word “hope” is commonly used to describe a “feeling of expectation, a desire or wish for a certain thing to happen”. The Bible has a different definition; “an expectation with certainty that God will do what He has said”. Both types of hope require an element of faith. However, Biblical hope rests on God whereas “common hope” rests on something else (feelings, other people, etc). Biblical hope endures through the trials of life whereas common hope if fleeting.
